Richardt Strydom at ESCAP3 Gallery: "Pain is an Unavoidable Side Effect"
I am thrilled to announce my participation in the group exhibition "Pain is an Unavoidable Side Effect" at ESCAP3 Gallery, running from June 3 to July 26, 2024. This exhibition, part of ESCAP3 Gallery's fourth birthday celebration, features works by artists including Bernard Brand, Danelle Heenop, Wim Legrand, Octavia Roodt, Neo Theku, Nina Torr, and myself, Richardt Strydom.
The exhibition theme reflects on a quote from Season II of the HBO Award-winning series "Carnivàle," evoking a paraphrase by Niccolò Machiavelli: "the end justifies the means." The creative process, like life, involves risk and vulnerability, with artists bearing the cost of making and sharing their work. This exhibition explores themes of tenderness, satire, soothing, violence, and brutal honesty, challenging the notion that "wearing your heart on your sleeve" is a weakness, presenting it instead as a noble strength.
